Two ways to test a hunch: a backward test analyses the history you already have, and a forward test (an experiment) watches it play out from today. Same question, same stats — two lenses.

When does it land? — Sleep Stress HRV Resting HR
The lighter bars are your baseline average (63.2ms ± 5.6 sd). Days from a day you mentioned it (0 = the day itself); where the HRV bar clears baseline is where the effect lands.
📔 Mood on the days you mentioned it

Each dot is a mention day: that day's HRV vs the mood you logged.
Rhythm — when do these days fall? (longest run 2 days · typically every ~9 days)
Cohort days by weekday. A lopsided strip means the effect might be a weekday pattern — the stats above already switch to a weekday-matched baseline when that happens.
Exercise — do you train differently on these days?
You worked out on 25% of these days vs 15% otherwise — you train more often than usual. Average 11.3 min vs 6.9 min per day.
From your Garmin activities — a possible confound for the biometric changes above.
Notable days — the most unusual cohort days, worth re-reading
2026-06-10 ↗ 💓 Resting HR +5.1bpm (1.4 sd from normal)
2026-08-17 ↗ 🛌 Sleep +0.7h (1.1 sd from normal)
2026-07-07 ↗ 🛌 Sleep +0.7h (1.0 sd from normal)
Opens that day in your journal — the numbers point you there; the words stay in your vault.
How this is computed
Your cohort is the days you mentioned read. Each metric's average on those days is compared with every other day in the window that has Garmin data (your baseline). The significance chip comes from a permutation test — 1,000 random reshuffles of which days are cohort days; a pattern is flagged only when the real difference beats most reshuffles (and you have at least 8 cohort days). "The night after" shifts the comparison to the following day. When your cohort clusters on certain weekdays, the baseline is restricted to those weekdays.
Correlations from your own logs — not causation. Mentioning or taking something once is easily noise at small n. Garmin daily rollups only; your journal prose never leaves your vault.
